Green Brigade could have Celtic Park security heightened after child burned during UCL tifo

The Green Brigade could see their section at Celtic Park hit with increased security after a nine-year-old fan was burned by a flare.

Police Scotland confirmed that a young child had been injured after being struck by a pyrotechnic flare within Celtic Park during the Champions League Group F opener with Real Madrid earlier this month.

The accident occurred after the Green Brigade - a vocal group that help bring atmosphere to the home of the Scottish champions - conducted a pyrotechnic display despite club pleas against it.

Earlier this year, Celtic shut down the standing section for a Scottish Cup tie against Raith Rovers after a similar pyro display before a derby with Rangers game. Glasgow City Council's safety advisory group for the stadium have highlighted the incident to the club and the east end outfit will assess crowd safety in that section of the stadium.

It's claimed Celtic and Police Scotland have been contacted for comment after 'cops launched an investigation into the incident'.

A spokesperson for the council told the Sun: “The use of pyrotechnics within football stadia is illegal and, as this incident has shown, presents a real risk to public safety.

“As chair of the Safety Advisory Group for Celtic Park, we have raised the incident with the club and the club will look at how management of crowd safety issues can be improved in the section of the ground where the incident took place.

“The safety of spectators within a stadium is always ultimately a matter for the club concerned.”
