The Green Bay Packers have agreed to a trade that will send future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Packers are sending Rodgers, the 15th overall pick and the 170th overall pick (fifth round) to the Jets for the 13th overall pick, the 42nd overall pick, the 207th overall pick and a conditional 2024 second-round pick that turns into a first-round pick if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the team’s plays.
The historic trade ends the relationship between the franchise and one of game’s best ever quarterbacks while also marking the start of the Jordan Love era in Green Bay.
Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP and one-time Super Bowl champion, played in 230 regular season games and 22 playoff games over 18 seasons with the Packers. He will play his 19th NFL season in New York with the Jets, who might be a quarterback away from contending in the AFC in 2023. The Packers will transition to Love, a first-round pick in 2020 who developed behind Rodgers over the last three seasons and is ready to take over as the new starter in Green Bay.
Rodgers turns 40 years old in December. Last season, he threw 26 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions while finishing with a passer rating of 91.1, the lowest of his career as a starter in Green Bay.
The Packers drafted Rodgers in the first round of the 2005 draft. He sat behind Brett Favre for three seasons before taking over in 2008 after Favre, following an unretirement from football, was traded to the Jets.
The Jets finished 7-10 in 2022 but beat the Packers at Lambeau Field in October. The team has a strong young nucleus in place, a defensive-minded head coach in Robert Saleh and an offense now being run by coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, a close friend of Rodgers and a former assistant in Green Bay.
