Since taking over as general manager of the Green Bay Packers in 2018, Brian Gutekunst has made 48 total picks over five different drafts. He will enter the 2023 NFL draft with 10 more picks, and more could be coming if he can complete the increasingly difficult Aaron Rodgers trade.
Reviewing the past can sometimes be the only way to understand what’s possibly coming in the future.
Here’s a complete breakdown of Gutekunst’s five-year draft history (2018-22) with the Packers.
Every draft pick

First-round picks (7)
Year | Name | Pos | School | RAS | Age |
2018 | Jaire Alexander | CB | Louisville | 9.54 | 21 |
2019 | Rashan Gary | OLB | Michigan | 9.95 | 21 |
2019 | Darnell Savage | S | Maryland | 8.35 | 21 |
2020 | Jordan Love | QB | Utah State | 8.46 | 21 |
2021 | Eric Stokes | CB | Georgia | 9.38 | 22 |
2022 | Quay Walker | LB | Georgia | 9.63 | 21 |
2022 | Devonte Wyatt | DL | Georgia | 9.60 | 24 |
Even though Gutekunst broke tendency last year and took Wyatt, a 24-year-old, his pattern is still relatively clear: elite athletes only in the first round. And the oldest pick outside of Wyatt is still Stokes, who was 22. Gutekunst’s legacy as GM may live and die with the first-round pick he made in 2020.
2023 draft picks: No. 15
Second-round picks (5)
Year | Name | Pos | School | RAS | Age |
2018 | Josh Jackson | CB | Iowa | 9.27 | 22 |
2019 | Elgton Jenkins | OL | Miss. State | 9.57 | 23 |
2020 | A.J. Dillon | RB | Boston College | 9.16 | 22 |
2021 | Josh Myers | C | Ohio State | N/A | 22 |
2022 | Christian Watson | WR | NDSU | 9.96 | 22 |
The same athleticism tendency applies in the second round. Watson was one of the most athletic players in the 2022 draft class, and Gutekunst aggressively moved up to get him. Myers didn’t test in 2021 but would have almost certainly been a high RAS prospect.
2023 draft picks: No. 45
Third-round picks (5)
Year | Name | Pos | School | RAS | Age |
2018 | Oren Burks | LB | Vanderbilt | 9.73 | 23 |
2019 | Jace Sternberger | TE | Texas A&M | 5.25 | 22 |
2020 | Josiah Deguara | TE | Cincinnati | 6.67 | 23 |
2021 | Amari Rodgers | WR | Clemson | 5.37 | 21 |
2022 | Sean Rhyan | OL | UCLA | 9.35 | 21 |
Let’s just forget the last five third rounds happened, okay? The curse has to break eventually.
2023 draft picks: No. 78
Fourth-round picks (4)
Year | Name | Pos | School | RAS | Age |
2018 | J’Mon Moore | WR | Missouri | 8.43 | 22 |
2021 | Royce Newman | OL | Ole Miss | 8.72 | 23 |
2022 | Romeo Doubs | WR | Nevada | 8.28 | 22 |
2022 | Zach Tom | OL | Wake Forest | 9.92 | 23 |
After two mostly misses, Doubs and Tom look like excellent fourth-rounders for Gutekunst. All four picks here were in the elite athlete range.
2022 draft picks: No. 116
Fifth-round picks (8)
Year | Name | Pos | School | RAS | Age |
2018 | Cole Madison | OL | Wash. State | 4.59 | 23 |
2018 | JK Scott | P | Alabama | N/A | 22 |
2018 | Marquez Valdes-Scantling | WR | USF | 9.27 | 23 |
2019 | Kingsley Keke | DL | Texas A&M | 7.99 | 22 |
2020 | Kamal Martin | LB | Minnesota | N/A | 21 |
2021 | TJ Slaton | DL | Florida | 7.96 | 23 |
2021 | Shemar Jean-Charles | CB | App. State | 4.27 | 22 |
2022 | Kingsley Enagbare | LB | S. Carolina | 6.26 | 22 |
As is the case for every GM, Gutekunst’s picks in the fifth round are hit or miss. Enagbare looks like a good find entering Year 2. The Packers appear to be less strict with athleticism standards at this point in the draft.
2023 draft picks: No. 149, No. 170 (compensatory)
Sixth-round picks (8)
Year | Name | Pos | School | RAS | Age |
2018 | Equanimeous St. Brown | WR | Notre Dame | 9.84 | 21 |
2019 | Ka’dar Hollman | CB | Toledo | 9.22 | 23 |
2019 | Dexter Williams | RB | Notre Dame | 8.17 | 22 |
2020 | Jon Runyan | OL | Michigan | 8.45 | 22 |
2020 | Jake Hanson | C | Oregon | 3.74 | 23 |
2020 | Simon Stepaniak | OL | Indiana | N/A | 22 |
2021 | Cole Van Lanen | OL | Wisconsin | 8.49 | 22 |
2021 | Isaiah McDuffie | LB | Boston College | 7.33 | 21 |
The Packers didn’t make a pick in the sixth round last year and won’t again in 2023 (barring a trade). McDuffie looked like an ascending player as a backup and special teamer in 2022.
2023 draft picks: None
Seventh-round picks (11)
Year | Name | Pos | School | RAS | Age |
2018 | James Looney | DL | Cal | 9.74 | 22 |
2018 | Hunter Bradley | LS | Miss. State | 9.02 | 23 |
2018 | Kendall Donnerson | OLB | SE Missouri State | 9.89 | 22 |
2019 | Ty Summers | LB | TCU | 9.71 | 23 |
2020 | Vernon Scott | S | TCU | N/A | 22 |
2020 | Jonathan Garvin | OLB | Miami (Fl) | 8.98 | 20 |
2021 | Kylin Hill | RB | Miss. State | 7.31 | 22 |
2022 | Tariq Carpenter | S | Georgia Tech | 9.06 | 23 |
2022 | Jonathan Ford | DL | Miami | 3.53 | 23 |
2022 | Rasheed Walker | OT | Penn State | N/A | 22 |
2022 | Samori Toure | WR | Nebraska | 6.15 | 24 |
Gutekunst continues to stockpile seventh-round picks. He’s taken some big swings on elite athletes with little success. Of the seventh-rounders picked between 2018-2021, only Garvin remains on the roster.
2023 draft picks: No. 232, No. 235, No. 242, No. 256 (compensatory)
