Customs agents in Thessaloniki, Greece, made a significant drug bust at the city's port, seizing approximately 93 kilograms (205 pounds) of cocaine. The illicit substance was discovered on a ship that had traveled from Ecuador to Thessaloniki, purportedly transporting bananas. The shipment was intended to be further transported by a French company to Romania overland.
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR) in Greece, responsible for overseeing customs operations, reported that during a routine inspection, customs agents utilized X-ray technology to scan a container. Inside the container's cooling system, they uncovered 80 concealed packages containing the cocaine.
Upon the discovery, authorities promptly confiscated the drugs and the container. The confiscated cocaine, with an estimated street value exceeding 2.9 million euros ($3.16 million), was handed over to the police for further investigation. The authorities are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the intended recipients of the illegal drugs.
