An incident of severe child abuse has shocked the community on the southern Greek island of Crete, where a 3-year-old boy is currently fighting for his life in a hospital. The child, who was rushed to Heraklion University General Hospital, has sustained a severe head injury along with multiple injuries to his limbs and torso. Medical professionals have described the case as one of the most distressing they have ever encountered, noting the presence of both recent and older injuries, as well as burn marks on the young victim.
The accused individuals, a 26-year-old woman and her 44-year-old boyfriend, have been taken into custody following the incident. They appeared before a prosecutor to face charges that include attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm, and exposing a minor to danger. The defendants, who have not been publicly named in accordance with Greek law, have reportedly shifted blame onto each other, with both denying responsibility for the abuse.
