A third of Brits are looking forward to cosy nights in to binge watch their favourite TV programmes according to new research from, Manhattan TV, the UK-owned manufacturer of set-top boxes. And Manhattan TV’s data reveals that Brits are in agreement when it comes to their top telly watching faux-pas, namely chatterboxes - 90% of Brits admit to wanting to sit in silence whilst watching their favourite shows.
14% of Brits admit that they are most irritated when their partner watches an episode of their favourite show without them, and 20% said friends accidentally sharing an ending was their greatest irritation.
A third of us agree that scrolling through social media for spoilers is seriously frowned upon, even though over a half of us (61%) admit to being on our phones whilst watching television. It seems that programmes aren’t keeping our attention, as over a quarter (28%) admit to regularly falling asleep during a show.
Manhattan TV’s research also looks at our food choices whilst getting our telly fix, over three quarters (77%) of Brits’ savoury snack of choice is a bowl of crisps and those with a sweet tooth prefer chocolate (68%). Amongst those who like to indulge in a takeaway almost half would choose pizza (48%) or a chinese (46%) in front of the box, and our least favourite takeaway of choice is Thai (8%).
Alex Arbab-Zadeh, CEO at Manhattan TV, said: “There’s a great selection of TV all year round available to our customers, but autumn brings amazing dramas which are perfect for the early darker evenings. I was intrigued to see from our research what the top telly faux-pas are and agree that talking through programmes is a big no-no from me!”
