Greater Manchester set to bask in week-long heatwave as temperatures soar to 24C

This weekend's glorious weather is set to continue throughout the next couple of weeks with temperatures soaring to 24C. In the last couple of days, people have descended on parks and other beauty spots, while shoppers also made the most of sun-kissed Piccadilly Gardens.

Although there are set to be some rainy spells in the coming days, Mancunians can still expect warm weather for the most part. Tomorrow (Monday May 9) will see highs of 18C but there is an 80pc chance of rain in the evening. Throughout the week, 9C is the lowest temperature expected.

However, it is at the end of next week when the weather really starts to pick up. By next Sunday (May 15) the mercury is set to reach 21C, with highs of 24C expected two days later.

The heatwave is set to last for the whole week, according to weather experts. Met Office's long range weather forecast reads: "Dry weather for most throughout much of this period, bringing variable cloud and sunny spells to many areas. However northern regions are likely to see stronger winds and spells of rain at first.

"Elsewhere winds should be generally light to moderate, and coastal areas may also experience periods of low cloud or fog. The settled weather will come to dominate through the second half of the period, with any rain confined to far western and northern areas.

"Temperatures are likely to rise above average through the first few days, except nearer to the coast and perhaps in the far north, which may see slightly cooler conditions, and it is expected to become warm, perhaps very warm, later in the period."

Meteorologist Marco Petagna has also said that the weather could get 'very warm' as the month progresses. He said: “Temperatures are several degrees above where they should be at this time of year."
