Greater Manchester set for the 'hottest day of the year' as temperatures soar in heatwave

Greater Manchester will finally see some summery weather this week as the UK is set to be hit with a Spanish heatwave. Clear blue skies, sunshine and soaring temperatures will take over the region with predictions that Friday will be the 'hottest day of the year'.

Sun seekers are already getting a glimpse of the heatwave that is to come with temperatures beginning to heat up, reaching a high of 22C today. But it is on Friday when Greater Manchester will really feel the heat.

Temperatures across the city region are set to be hotter than Lanzarote reaching as high as 27C, according to the Met Office, which would also make it the warmest day that we have had so far this year.

Those who are lucky enough to have Friday off work, or people who are able to work outdoors, can expect sunshine from as early as 7am with temperatures starting off at 18C.

Moving into the mid morning, the weather will begin to heat up reaching around 22C at 10am.

The hottest part of the day will be during the afternoon, between 1pm and 4pm, where there is expected to be little to no clouds and bright, glorious sunshine.

During this time temperatures will range from a high of 27C and will cool to around 23C from 7pm.

The evening will still be warm, with a heat of up to 19C around 10pm despite the sun setting.

Elsewhere in the UK temperatures are set to soar above average during the heatwave on Friday, with some southern areas reaching 30C and 34C.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Dan Rudman, said; “Temperatures will continue to rise as we go through the week, becoming well above-average by Friday when many parts of the southern half of the UK are likely to exceed 30C and may even reach 34C in some places.”

“This is the first spell of hot weather this year and it is unusual for temperature to exceed these values in June. Many areas will also see some warm nights with minimum temperatures expected to be in the high teens or even low 20Cs for some overnight.”

“The heat is a result of a mix of home-grown warming in the day due to high pressure, as well as a southerly airflow introducing some of the warm air from the continent to UK shores."
