More snow and ice is expected across the country today as the Met Office extends its yellow weather warning further into the midlands.
Greater Manchester saw blankets of snow in places yesterday, while today many Mancunians will have woken up to much of the same. The weather alert is in place until 12 noon today.
It comes as Manchester Airport has had to close both its runways following 'heavy snow fall'. The airport says it will reopen its runways as soon as possible.

A spokesperson for Manchester Airport said: "Following a period of heavy snow fall, we have temporarily closed both runways. Health and safety will always be our top priority and operations will resume at the earliest opportunity. Passengers are advised to contact their airline for the most up-to-date flight information."
Today, temperatures are expected to peak at 3C, with lows of a chilly 1C. Plenty of sunny intervals are forecast among the cold weather, with no further rain or snow showers predicted.
Meanwhile, tomorrow will see highs of 4C and lows of -1C, with more sun on the way. The Met Office's yellow weather warning said: "Showers will affect the warning area, these falling as a mix of rain and hail near coasts, and sleet and snow inland at times, mainly overnight.
"This will lead to some temporary snow accumulations at low levels, whilst higher ground of Northern Ireland and Wales in particular, could see a further 2-5 cm of snow. For most parts of the warning area, however, ice will be the main hazard."
