Greater Manchester Police forced into pay out to nurse fined £10k over socially-distanced lockdown protest

Two nurses who were given Covid-19 fines by Greater Manchester Police over a socially-distanced protest about NHS pay held during lockdown have won pay-outs from the force.

Police chiefs have agreed to settle Karen Reissmann and Patricia Gallagher's claims for compensation after they brought legal proceedings against GMP, their solicitors said. No sums have been revealed, but the fines have been cancelled.

Ms Reissmann, a 61-year-old frontline mental heath nurse and union rep who worked throughout the pandemic, organised a protest on March 7, 2021, outside in St Peter's Square in Manchester city centre to protest against the government's proposed 1 per cent pay increase for NHS workers.
