- The supplementary vote (SV) system redistributes second-preference votes from eliminated candidates to the top two.
- The count, which began at 9:30am, is expected to declare Andy Burnham ’s successor this afternoon.
- The contest was triggered by Mr Burnham’s election as MP for Makerfield last month, a move positioning him for a Labour Party leadership bid.
- Of over two million eligible voters, only one in four cast a ballot – the lowest turnout in the four Greater Manchester mayoral races.
