HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) laid the foundation for repairs and remodelling of stormwater drains (SWD) in Chilkanagar area along with other development works on Friday.
City mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi laid the foundation for works worth 13.9 crore.
According to GHMC officials, a new stormwater drain would be laid from Adarsh Mart area in Bank Colony to Balaji Sweets in the Chilkanagar area under Uppal Circle. In the same vicinity, remodelling works of an existing stormwater drain would be done at Srigiri Colony, Dharmapuri Colony and Sri Sai Nagar areas for 2.82 crore.
Chilkanagar will also be getting a new community hall worth 27 lakh.
Officials said that 1.2 crore would be spent on restoring the stormwater drains in Raghavendra Colony, New Ram Nagar and Annapurna Colony areas.
Officials also said that 2.6 crore worth of CC roads would be laid after laying new stormwater drain pipelines in Bhavani Nagar, New Bhavani Nagar, and Green Hills Colony.
Officials said that the box drain works have already begun in Bhavani Nagar at a cost of 5.86 crore.
State labour minister Malla Reddy said that the GHMC has spent around 1,000 crore on the restoration of drains and construction of box culverts in the surrounding municipalities to withstand heavy rains.
