‘Great player but’ - Fans sound warning over Manchester United interest in Victor Osimhen

Large swathes of Manchester United supporters have welcomed the news that their club has an active interest in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, but some point to one aspect that worries them.

The Manchester Evening News revealed that the Reds have shortlisted the attacker, who is top scorer in Serie A with eight goals in 10 league matches for the table-toppers. There has been increased interest in the 23-year-old over the summer after recording an 18-goal haul last season.

He decided to reject approaches from Premier League clubs to stay on at Napoli, who are yet to be beaten domestically this season. United are in need of a new long-term striker with Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract ending in June and Anthony Martial persistently injured.

The MEN understands that the club’s next big recruitment drive will happen in the summer rather than in the new year. Osimhen is contracted at Napoli until 2025 and is unlikely to leave in January given the Italians' on-pitch fortunes this season.

However, that hasn’t stopped United fans from dreaming about the prospect of the Nigerian transferring to Old Trafford. Some on Twitter were delighted that their club had earmarked Osimhen as a potential buy.

@kobbyskary: The kind of striker we need to make things work at the moment.

@SAF_Football: Would love to see this happen, absolute baller.

@Blk_Jasz: The perfect striker for us I really hope we get him somehow.

@UTDOdenke: Victor will be a massive addition.

@ImLewisFerguson: Would be such a good buy. He a beast. Tall, physical, great shot, blistering pace and can pull a goal out of nowhere.

However others were concerned about his injury record. Over the last two years, the striker has picked up at least six different problems amid his good form.

@reddevil2361: He's injury prone than Martial.

@stretford_end: Really great player, but the issue could be his injury record.

@itsJrbits: Injury prone, no?

@easternglow42: Osimhen is a monster but between his injury record and his price, I don’t see him coming to United.
