There is just over a month to go until the Great North Run.
Excitement is building for most of those taking part in the 2022 Great North Run, which will see the return of the traditional Newcastle to South Shields route.
But what if you have a place and are unable to run the race this year? It could be a clash in plans, or perhaps you just know you have not done the training and are running out of time.

If that's you, you can withdraw from the 2022 Great North Run and have your place reserved for the 2023 event instead. You have until the eve of the race to decide.
Great Run says: "If you are unable to run and have to withdraw from the 2022 Great North Run, we will guarantee you an entry for the 2023 event. Please note that entry fees are not refundable under any circumstances however, we do offer the option to apply for a guaranteed entry for the following year."
If you want to give up this year but save your space for 2023, you must withdraw by 6pm on Saturday September 10. The 2022 Great North Run takes place the following day, Sunday September 11.
Can't run the 2022 Great North Run? Withdraw and swap for a guaranteed entry for 2023 race
Getting a place for the Great North Run can, quite literally, be a lottery. If you've got one for the 2022 race you may well be reluctant to pull out now.
But if you are unable to commit to running this year, you can withdraw your entry and have a space reserved for next year's Great North Run.
Head to the Great North Run site here and submit your withdrawal by 6pm on Saturday September 10.
You will need either a 24-character booking reference from Let's Do This, if you applied through Let's Do This, or the last 7 digits of the unique registration ID you got if you got your place through a charity, Great North Run priority entry or a token.
Great Run adds: "We will be contacting everyone who has requested to withdraw their entry by email in November, with instructions of how to register and pay for their guaranteed entry into the following year’s event. Please make sure the contact email address we have for you is correct and contact us here if you have not heard from us by December, as we will need to get your entry secured before we open the ballot in early January."
