A frail 95-year-old great-gran was left in tears after a holiday to her favourite city turned into 'absolute hell'. Teacher Robert Alderson booked a trip to Florence with his widowed mum, Joan, as her final trip away to a city she would visit with her late husband.
But Joan kept 'bursting into tears' and suffered nightmares following a string of problems from before their outbound flight even left the runway. Robert described how the pair were stopped from boarding their initial KLM flight at Manchester on June 25 because it was 'overbooked', meaning they missed their first night of the trip.
The pair were sat waiting at the gate before a taxi arrived two hours later to take them to a hotel in Altrincham overnight. And after a few short days away, they then missed their connecting flight home at Paris because airport staff did not have the facilities to help 95-year-old Joan off the plane in time.
