'Great concern': man accused of repeatedly abusing three women faces 60+ charges

A man accused of physically and sexually assaulting three women over several months faces more than 60 criminal charges.

The 36-year-old, who has not be named to protect the identity of the alleged victims, was refused bail when he faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday, June 5.

He is yet to enter pleas to 69 charges, which include multiple counts of sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and aggravated choking of a person and rendering them insensible.

The alleged abuser was arrested after three women contacted police in late 2025 and early 2026.

The women alleged they were subjected to multiple violent acts while they were dating the man, including physical and sexual assaults dating back to 2024.

The 36-year-old was charged on Thursday after officers searched his home in Canberra.

On Friday, a lengthy statement of alleged facts was handed to the court as a Legal Aid duty lawyer applied for bail on the man's behalf.

The lawyer said strict bail conditions, including for the man to reside with his mum and have no contact with the alleged victims, could address concerns about him potentially endangering the community.

She said the last alleged crime occurred in November 2025 with no further allegations since, and argued there was no genuine likelihood he would commit offences or interfere with witnesses if released on bail.

The prosecutor opposed bail, describing the protection of the alleged victims as a matter of "great concern".

She said the Crown had reviewed photographs showing bruising and scratching allegedly suffered by one woman.

She also argued the allegations suggested a pattern of behaviour on the man's part of "complete disregard" for the safety of the women.

Magistrate Alexandra Burt agreed with the prosecution's concerns, saying there were "serious rape allegations" among the series of charges.

She said there was a concern the man could endanger the safety of the community if granted conditional freedom.

The man's case will return to court in July.
