The Great British Bake Off is back for a new series and fans are ready to bake - or at least watch what the latest crew of amateur bakers create. However, while viewers were thrilled to see the Channel 4 show return to their screens, some shared their sadness as the episode came to a close.
The return of the show on Tuesday, September 13, came in a week when much of the nation was already saddened by the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Enjoying the light relief of the return of the TV series, some fans said the show being back on air was 'just what was needed' to chase the blues away. However, the programme ended on a sad note.
As it came to an end, the final moment of the credits contained a tribute to Chloe Avery. Reading the heartfelt words in the title card, some viewers were left feeling emotional.

The show was paying tribute to one of its producers who died last month. It read: "In Loving Memory of Chloe Avery, 1980-2022." Chloe was a food producer for Love Productions, the company which produces and runs the show for The Great British Bake Off behind the scenes. Love Productions tweeted after the episode went out: "In memory of Chloë Avery who was a much loved member of the Bake Off family."
Last month, Chloe's brother Henry broke the news that Chloe had sadly lost her battle with cancer. Yorkshire Live reported that he had explained on Facebook that his sister had been diagnosed with cancer in December last year and was given just two weeks to live by doctors. She started chemotherapy the next day but sadly died on Monday, August 22, 2022.
He said: "Throughout this, Chloë remained adamant that she would get better and put this all behind her. There will be so many of you reading this now that won’t have even known she was unwell, but that was how she wanted it to be. Chloë wanted to reappear after this, healthy and strong with her baby boy and simply say when asked that ‘2022 had been a tough year."
Touched by the tribute on the show, viewers shared their thoughts on social media. One said: "That tribute to @LoveProductions’ Chloe at the end was lovely. What a wonderful, patient, kind woman she was." Another added: "Chloe Avery, who was remembered on #GBBO just now, died this month. She was the show’s food producer; devising the signature and technical challenges, helping celebrities with their recipes, and working on other spin-offs. My best wishes to all those who knew and loved her." Someone else joined in: "The biggest of hugs to the loved ones of Chloë Avery"
