Grayson Murray, a 30-year-old golfer on the PGA Tour, died on Saturday morning, according to commissioner Jay Monahan in a press release that stunned golf fans everywhere.
Murray had been in the field for this weekend’s Charles Schwab Challenge, but withdrew after 16 holes on Friday. No cause of death has been announced.
“We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” Monahan said. “The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”
The Raleigh, North Carolina native had two career wins on Tour, including this year’s Sony Open.
Golfers and fans began sharing tributes to Murray while awaiting more information to become available.
