Graphic: Nick Chubb, Jim Brown near top of YPC in NFL history

Talent at the running back position is something of a legacy for the Cleveland Browns. RB Jim Brown is the player many speak of as the greatest to play the position of all time. Some consider him the overall greatest of all time (GOAT).

Although he only played until he was 29 years old, Brown churned out over 12,000 yards rushing and over 2,000 yards receiving. In total, the Cleveland legend had 126 touchdowns combined.

Current Browns RB Nick Chubb may never reach those totals but has been a vital cog in the team’s offense since being drafted in 2018. In Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers, Chubb carried the offense on his back with 22 carries for 144 yards.

Unfortunately for fantasy football owners, RB Kareem Hunt vultured the team’s two touchdowns.

Chubb and Brown have one thing in common, they make the most of their carries:

Chubb started his career by averaging an impressive 5.0 and 5.2 yards per carry in his first two seasons. He’s pushed beyond that the last two seasons with averages of 5.6 and 5.5 respectively.

In Week 1 of the 2022 season, Chubb averaged 6.4 yards per carry with a whopping 22 carries.

Jamaal Charles, the leader of the illustrious group, carried the ball just over 1,400 times in his 11-year career with five seasons of 190 carries or more.

It may be tough for Chubb to sustain his average long enough to overtake Charles but, provided good health and a good offensive line, he’s well on his way to staying a part of this amazing group of running backs.
