A founding member of the eighties rap group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five has been convicted of stabbing a homeless man to death.
Hip hop pioneer Nathaniel Glover - the first artist to call himself and coin the term 'MCs' (Masters of Ceremonies) - was found guilty of manslaughter by a jury in New York.
The court was told how in August 2017, Glover, while on his way to work, killed John Jolly during an argument in Manhattan.
The rapper, who performed under the name Kidd Creole - not to be confused with Kid Creole - passed the 55-year-old on the street before the two exchanged words.
Glover, 62, believed the homeless man was attempting to solicit him for sex.
The two men then went chest to chest before Jolly was stabbed twice in the torso with a steak knife.
He was later found by a group of tourists before he was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Glover, who since fame had been working as a handyman and security guard, had run from the scene to where he was working, changed his clothes and cleaned the knife in a sink, prosecutors said.
When interviewed by police, he admitted the attack, although he didn't realise Jolly had died.
"To tell the truth, I thought he was gay, and because I thought he was gay, and he was saying that to me, 'what's up,' I was thinking that he was thinking I was gay," Glover told detectives.
"So I was a little annoyed by that.
"He approached me. I got a little nervous. So then I tried to back up a little bit, and he moved forward, and then I just took the knife and stabbed him.
"I wish I never would have seen him. It's all my fault because I chose to stab him. I have to take responsibility for that."
As a founding member of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, the group had huge success and also in the UK with their hit 'The Message' in 1982.
In the history of hip hop music, the group are cited as one of the most influential creators of the genre impacting dozens of acts that followed.
They include Run-D.M.C., Beastie Boys, Wu-Tang Clan, Eminem, The Notorious B.I.G., N.W.A, Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, and DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince.
Glover will be sentenced on May 4 and will face a maximum of 25 years in prison.
