A pensioner cannot afford to buy a new pair of glasses for his wife after being conned out of £75,000 by his own granddaughter.
Olivia Crutchley left her grandad Roy, who she described as her "best friend", penniless after inventing a legal battle with B&Q and billing him for the supposed solicitors fees. Her cruel con spanned more than 18 months, with the stolen money being used to feed her crippling drug addiction.
In a statement read out to Liverpool Crown Court on his behalf this week, the 79-year-old victim said: "I did this to help my eldest granddaughter. She has been through so much in her life, I just wanted something to go well for her.
