Grand National weights 2023: All you need to know

The weights for the 2023 Grand National are set to be unveiled on Tuesday afternoon.

The Aintree contest takes place on Saturday April 15 this year, with 40 horses set to take their chance over the famous fences.

Plenty has been made about the entries for the marathon race, with only 31 of the 85 horses entered in the 4 miles, 2 ½ furlongs contest UK-trained.

The unveiling of the weights for the 175th running of the Randox Grand National in 2023 will take place on Tuesday 21 February at St George’s Hall in Liverpool.

Allocating different weights to the 40 runners is based on their ability and form, with the intention of giving every contender an equal chance of winning the world’s greatest steeplechase.

A horse needs to have started a chase contest during the current season, prior to March 28, and run over fences at least six times in their career by February 5. It must also have been placed first, second, third or fourth in a chase with an official distance description of 2m7½f or more, at any time during their career to be eligible for the National.
