The Grand National Festival kicked off today, April 13, with ticket holders dressed to the nines in celebration.
The smash hit racing event is an annual affair, taking over the city's Aintree Racecourse for three consecutive days of horse-racing. It's a highlight on many people's social calendars, with festival-goers travelling to Aintree from far and wide in style.
This year, organisers The Jockey Club announced a major change by abandoning dress codes at all 15 of its racecourses. The move was made as part of efforts to make the event more accessible and comfortable for attendees.

The change wasn't apparent on day one though, with the vast majority of ticket holders donning smart suits, stylish dresses, and plenty of tweed and wool for good measure. The Grand National, like the rest of Liverpool, is known for its dedication to fashion, with people often using the occasion as an opportunity to express their sense of style.
Couples are no exception, and plenty of perfectly dressed pairs were spotted at Aintree Racecourse this Thursday, April 13. Here are some of the most stylish couples spotted on the opening day of this year's Randox Grand National Festival.
The Grand National 2023 will take place from Thursday, April 13 until Saturday, April 15. ECHO reporters are at Aintree over the course of the festival to keep you updated on all the latest news from the event.
