Grand National 2022: Watch as merry racegoers start singing and dancing at Aintree

People have returned to the Grand National festival for the first time in three years, and the atmosphere has been electric.

While the weather wasn't what racegoers were hoping for, nobody seemed to let it dampen their spirits. People grabbed their umbrellas and were determined to have a good time regardless.

One of the key events in Liverpool's social calendar, the opening day of the Grand National Festival 2022 kicks off three full days of world-famous racing. Ladies' Day will take place on Friday, before the headline event on Saturday.

The atmosphere has been fantastic, with people clearly wanting to make up for lost time due to the pandemic. And of course, plenty of people have picked winners, too.

Sheltering from the rain and wind, many people flocked to the Equestrian Centre, where there was also live music. And it didn't take long for people to join in the singing and dancing.

Footage shows revellers Irish dancing, singing along to Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline and dancing outside to a live brass band. There's also a clip of people throwing shapes to the Proclaimers' I'm Gonna Be (500 miles).

The Grand National will run up to and including Saturday, April 9.
