The country's largest horse racing event will soon be underway as thousands of racegoers attend Aintree for the first time since lockdown restrictions have been lifted. The Grand National will be broadcasted live on ITV1 at 5.15pm on Saturday, April 9 and will be watched by more than 500 million people across the globe.
Aintree Racecourse in Merseyside has become one of the most famous horse racing tracks in the world ever since it first formed back in 1839. Last year's winner Minella Times will be making another run this year to defend his Randox Grand National crown. The nine-year-old played a hand in making Rachael Blackmore become the first female jockey to win the world's greatest steeplechase when he landed a six-and-a-half length victory.

Other famous winning horses include Red Rum and Party Politics, while Tiger Roll set his name in stone after winning both in 2018 and 2019. A field of 40 runners makes the starting line to tackle 30 fences over four-and-a-half miles this year.
