Grand National - LIVE!
Sam Waley-Cohen’s career has ended with a dream Grand National success courtesy of 50/1 outsider Noble Yeats.
The 39-year-old jockey announced his intention to retire after the showpiece earlier this week and was carried to a fairytale success as he got the better of favourite Any Second Now in the Aintree feature.
There was plenty of top-class racing earlier in the day, too. The first Grade 1 of the day went the way of Gordon Elliott and Davy Russell as Three Stripe Life landed the Betway Mersey Novices’ Hurdle.
But there was an upset in the Poundland Maghull Novices’ Chase as Arkle winner Edwardstone was beaten at odds-on by Gentleman De Mee and jockey Mark Walsh then made it a Grade 1 double by partnering Sire Du Berlais to victory in the JRL Group Liverpool Hurdle.
