The Grand National Festival 2022 is officially back, with thousands of racegoers already descending on Aintree racecourse this morning.
The Grand National Festival kicks off today, April 7, and racegoers, runners and riders are looking ahead to a big weekend. This year is the first since 2019 that guests have been allowed to attend at full capacity.
Today marks NHS Day, a day to honour the efforts of staff during the coronavirus pandemic, and kicks off the whole event, which will run until April 9, when one horse will be crowned winner of the world's greatest steeplechase.

The weather might have gotten off to a bad start, but that hasn’t stopped guests arriving looking their best. Each year, racegoers come dressed to the nines - and bring their great banter along with them.
Excited visitors arrived this morning as the gates opened at 10am ready for a big day of betting, fashion and fun. As the gates opened at Aintree on the first day of the Grand National Festival, it was clear many ticket holders were keen to make an early entrance to the racecourse.
Whether hoping to win on the big race, or just wanting to enjoy a day out with friends and family - thousands of punters descend on Aintree every year for the three day festival, as well as millions watching the runners around the world.
