Grand Designs 'saddest ever' house scores lucky break as £10m mansion 'to be sold'

The infamous 'saddest ever' house on Grand Designs could be sold in a matter of weeks, it has been reported.

Viewers will recognise the lighthouse property hit by spiralling costs and years-long setbacks that cost the homeowners their marriage. The tide may have turned for the infamous home as its estate agents say a sale is in the works.

Homeowner Edward Short had listed the property for a jaw dropping £10million earlier this year, but the property listing has now been removed from Knight Frank amid discussions with a buyer.

It comes after claims earlier this month that the potential sale of Chesil Cliff House and its the annexe, The Eye, had fallen through at the last hour.

However, the sale is still expected to "go ahead", according to comments given to Express.co.uk.

Nic Chbat, director of Match Property estate agents in Devon, said he had been supporting the owners and sourcing buyers but explained that the sale had been paused due to the timescale "expiring".

He told the publication: "As far as I am aware the previous buyer is still wanting to buy the property as a whole including the Eye, but the agreed timescale for the sale to conclude has expired.

"This is simply due to delays verifying that some agreed works on site have been concluded. This is in hand and will be verified in due course, at which point we expect the sale to go ahead."

Reflecting on claims of the sale falling through, he continued: "Understandably, we are discussing options with other interested parties in the interim which includes the potential to sell the Eye separately, as previously reported.

"It is normal for any sale to go through some delays and uncertainties as the sale progresses through the legal conveyancing and this sale is no different to any other in that regard.

"There is no doubt the sale will go through, hopefully with the current buyer, and if not, with another interested party in due course."

Meanwhile, property owner Edward Short is believed to be hoping that the sale of the home will alleviate his £7 million debt from building the mansion.

Chesil Cliff House sits on a cliffside in North Devon with stunning views of the coast. It had been expected to take 18 months to build, but took a total of 10 years to complete.

The building of his home had been set to take 18 months but instead took ten years, leaving locals in fits of rage over how the property would have an effect on the local area.

Following the decision to go ahead with the build, challenges had hit Mr Short including Brexit, coronavirus, cost of living and bad weather.
