UTV Buggies

An excursion in these buggies both on and off road is truly something else.

Available to book through Tripadvisor, this activity gives you the chance to explore the landscapes around the Fataga Natural Park.

Following a guide, you will travel with a convoy tackling paved roads and dirt paths on your quad bike. Groups of five can ride in the same buggie.

Cocodrilo Park

Cocodrilo Park is the only animal rescue park on the Canary Islands and is home to many animals brought by individuals or seized by governments.

There are birds, reptiles and mammals galore and admission is as little as €9.99.

Playa de Maspalomas

Located on the south end of the island of Gran Canaria, this extensive stretch of beach and glorious sand dunes is well worth visiting. The photo opportunities are rather epic (like something out of the Sahara Desert) and there are a number of things to do here.

In fact, you can go on camel rides around the area.

Day cruises

Like any popular sun holiday from Dublin, there are a myriad of day trips and cruises to choose from in Gran Canaria.

There is a six hour rainforest tour which lets you see the greener side of the island and involves a dip in a beautiful swimming hole.

There is also a two hour dolphin and whale watching excursion, cruising to spots where dolphins often surface and where sperm whales swim in their natural habitat. Plus, enjoy stunning views of Gran Canaria's coastline.

Snorkelling and water activities

Snorkelling is fantastic craic and with the number of things to do in Gran Canaria, this should definitely be on your list.

There are numerous tour companies offering such experiences.

One on offer sees guests embark on a three hour boat trip from Las Palmas which includes snorkelling at a protected beach, as well as enjoying local cuisine.

Party in the Yumbo Centre

If it's nightlife you're after, the restaurants, bars and nightclubs in the Yumbo Centre are where you'll want to be.

You'll catch regular drag shows here as well as other entertainment. It is situated in the tourist resort of Playa Del Ingles and features many different floors in the open air centre where you can find places to eat, drink and be merry.

Aqualand Maspalomas

Fantastic waterslides and exciting attractions for all ages is what you will find at Aqualand Maspalomas. It is one of the largest water parks in Europe and is home to around 20 major attractions including the two wild Kamikaze toboggans, the Rapids and its stretch of water for rafting and the eight lanes that make up the Water Maze.
