Graham Potter told which teams may end Chelsea Champions League dream amid Thomas Tuchel repeat

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has been warned by former Arsenal star Paul Merson about which teams pose a threat to the west London club in their pursuit of the Champions League. The Blues progressed to the quarter-finals of the competition last week after turning around a difficult clash against Borussia Dortmund.

Karim Adeyemi's solo effort in the first leg gave the German side a clear advantage going to Stamford Bridge, but goals from Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz overturned the aggregate score to earn Potter and his men a space in the final eight of the competition. It was a huge moment for the under fire manager, keeping the side competitive for at least another few weeks.

"To win a game and progress into the last eight of the Champions League, you have to say it's up there in terms of wins and evenings in my career, for sure," the manager said after his side won the huge tie. It remains to be seen exactly who the Blues will draw in the next round though.

At this stage, Benfica, Bayern Munich and AC Milan are the only other confirmed teams for the next round, while the rest of the sides are decided with the second legs playing out over Tuesday and Wednesday. Four of Manchester City or RB Leipzig, FC Porto or Inter, Napoli or Eintracht Frankfurt and Real Madrid or Liverpool will make up the final eight.

With Potter looking to follow the footsteps of predecessor Thomas Tuchel in winning a Champions League in his first season in charge, there may need to be some fortune in the draw. Ex-Arsenal player Merson believes there's only two teams that the west London outfit should be wary of.

He wrote for Sky Sports: "It was an outstanding week for Chelsea, with wins over Leeds, Dortmund and Leicester, and now with Everton at home next they can get on a roll. If the Champions League quarter-final draw goes their way, bar Man City and Bayern Munich, I don’t think too many teams will want to play Chelsea. If they don’t meet those two then I think they’ll get through to the semi-finals."
