Graham Potter tipped to turn Wesley Fofana into a 'superstar' as he improves Chelsea squad

Wesley Fofana became the third most expensive defender of all time when he joined Chelsea from Leicester City last month. The young Frenchman signed for the Blues for a fee in the region of £70 million, becoming Chelsea's most expensive addition of their summer spending spree.

Fofana made his Chelsea debut in the 2-1 win over West Ham United last weekend, before starting again in the 1-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb in midweek. Hours after that game, Fofana discovered that the man who signed him, Thomas Tuchel, had been sacked by Chelsea.

Given Chelsea's stellar defensive record under Tuchel, Fofana was expected to improve under the German head coach, but he is being tipped to take huge strides under new boss Graham Potter.

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson believes Fofana's game will only get better under Potter. During his time at Brighton, Potter created a culture of development and improving players. The likes of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, defender Adam Webster and midfielder Alexis Mac Allister all benefitted from his management and saw significant improvements in their performances.

"He [Potter] improves players," Dawson told Sky Sports News. "You look at what he did at Brighton, they weren't superstars when he took over, but they are now.

"Wesley Fofana coming in is a great signing.

“He's a young centre-half, he’s only going to get better with time and Graham Potter is only going to improve him.”
