Graham Potter's Christian Pulisic stance explained as £40m Chelsea transfer claims emerge

Chelsea and Christian Pulisic appear to be at a crucial stage in their relationship, with the USMNT winger having only played 300 minutes across ten appearances so far this season - an average of just 30 minutes per match played.

The 24-year-old winger born in Hershey, PA has just a month to go before he is expected to star for his country at the World Cup, with group stage matches against England, Iran and Wales. However, he will hope that his lack of competitive action so far this season will not impede his performances on the global stage.

There is lots of discussion around the star's future, with an impressive CV to date and he will be hoping that he can either earn the support of Graham Potter and fulfil his Chelsea dreams or secure a move away from West London.

Here, we take a look at the latest stories regarding Pulisic's future at Chelsea.

Graham Potter's stance explained

There have been some strong words from USMNT icon Eric Wyndala, with the USMNT centurion claiming that the former Brighton boss does not like Pulisic.

His comments, reported by Goal, claim that the US star does not have the backing of Potter, with the bold claims explaining why fans may not have seen enough of the former Dortmund man in action this season.

Wynalda told of Pulisic’s situation: "A lot of comments coming from Graham Potter suggesting that he’s (Pulisic) great around the place, he’s a good player, he’s a good guy, we’re all rooting for him.

"Bottom line is, Graham Potter doesn’t like him. He just doesn’t like him. He’s the one player that if he’s coming down the hallway, he’s looking for the side door. He doesn’t want to talk to him. He doesn’t want to look at him and nobody will admit that.”

While the statement appears to lift a lid on the situation, they are not comments which come from the mouth of Potter himself and must be taken with a pinch of salt. However, as they come from such a notable figure within US soccer fans who are looking for answers may see this as the reason for his lack of action.

Newcastle willing to spend $45 million

Pulisic's options will not be limited should he opt for a move away from West London, with an impressive CV and obvious talent he his a player who is likely to find a home in the future.

One such place could be Newcastle United, with Eddie Howe's high flying Magpies reportedly willing to offer the star a role in their pursuit of Champions League football. This is according to Spanish outlet Todo Mercado Web who report the American's unhappiness with his role and will be seeking to force a move in January.

The price for Pulisic is believed to be in the region of $45 million (£39.8 million), with Newcastle said to be 'obsessed' with Pulisic according to leading journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Last month, speaking to Que Golazo podcast Romano said, “Newcastle were obsessed with Christian [Pulisic]. They wanted him on loan, but not on a permanent deal. They wanted him on loan, maybe with a buy option, not mandatory. And this is why Chelsea decided to say no.”
