Graham Potter responds to Todd Boehly social media Marc Cucurella jibe amid Chelsea criticism

Graham Potter has leapt to the defence of Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella following criticism of the Spaniard's recent form.

Cucurella joined the Blues in Todd Boehly's record-breaking summer spree, arriving for £62million from Brighton. The left-back arrived as deputy to Ben Chilwell but has featured regularly throughout the season due to the Englishman's continued injury concerns.

Potter followed Cucurella to Stamford Bridge in September but the former Barcelona man has struggled to hit similar heights that he reached at the AMEX Stadium and has faced severe criticism. Last month, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher went as far to claim that the 24-year-old "can't defend" following a difficult evening against Manchester City.

And following last week's goalless draw with Fulham, former Chelsea man Frank Leboeuf did not hold back in his criticism of the Blues defender, suggesting he was "not good enough for Chelsea." football.london published Leboeuf's quotes - via the Daily Express - on Wednesday and posted a link to the quotes on Twitter.

However, Chelsea owner Boehly was seen liking one of the tweets with the caption that read: ‘He’s been slammed after half a season’. The social media activity sparked suggestions that the U.S. billionaire had run out of patience with Cucurella.

However, ahead of tomorrow's game with West Ham, Potter insisted that the defender has everybody's full support. "I can't comment. It's nothing that I would say is a reflection of Todd in any way, but I don't know how social media works" the Blues boss said.

"Everybody here is very supportive of Marc and we're trying to help him get back to the level that he can get to and enjoy his football. If a player can enjoy their football, chances are they will play well."
