Gareth Southgate has stepped down as England manager following the Three Lions defeat to Spain in the final of Euro 2024.
The 53-year-old's resignation brings to an end an eight-year spell as England boss during which he reached two European Championship finals, plus a semi-final and quarter-final of the World Cup. The former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough defender managed 102 games for his country, fewer than only Walter Winterbottom and Sir Alf Ramsey, but now steps away from the job after something of a gruelling Euro 2024 campaign.
While Southgate's achievements will now be celebrated, attention will quickly turn to who replaces him. The bookmakers have their candidates, so FourFourTwo takes a look at who is in the running.

Who is the favourite to take over from Gareth Southgate as England manager after Euro 2024?
Ahead of Sunday's Euro 2024 final, Ian Wright suggested Southgate should be kept on by the FA, due to his impressive results on the one hand and also because the England manager has "no natural replacement" in waiting.
Southgate has taken matters into his own hands though and now the search for a new boss is on.
The early favourite is former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter, with the latest Betfair odds (as per 11.15am on Tuesday), putting Potter at 6/4.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is another strong English candidate for the post and is priced at 4/1.
Southgate was promoted from his position of England U21s boss back in 2016 and the current Three Lions U21s chief Lee Carsley is the next in the betting at 11/2, with the former Everton and Republic of Ireland man having led his side to the U21s European Championship title last summer.
A pair of out-of-work ex-Chelsea bosses are next in the betting, with Thomas Tuchel at 6/1, slightly ahead of Mauricio Pochettino at 7/1.
Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is 14/1 to succeed Southgate, ahead of current Austria and former Manchester United head coach Ralf Rangnick.
Longer shots are ex-Three Lions midfielder Frank Lampard and Manchester City's Pep Guardiola at 20/1, with Jose Mourinho a 25/1 chance.
Former England midfielder Michael Carrick, currently at Middlesbrough, is a 33/1 chance, ahead of Sean Dyche and Gary O'Neil at 40/1.
Finally, the long shots, with Brendan Rodgers, Steven Gerrard, David Moyes, Steve Cooper, Southgate's former assistant Steve Holland, Wayne Rooney, Sarina Wiegman and Ange Postecoglou, who are all 50/1.
England's next matches are a Nations League double-header away to the Republic of Ireland and at home to Finland in September.
