Graham Potter gives Brighton verdict ahead of Premier League opener against Manchester United

Graham Potter insists that Brighton will only be focusing on themselves during their Premier League curtain raiser, which also sees Manchester United begin life under Erik ten Hag.

Having finished sixth in the table last year - missing out on Champions League qualification - United appointed Ten Hag as permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Old Trafford dugout. His introduction to the English top flight will come against the Seagulls with a landmark victory over United fresh in their minds.

Brighton humbled United in their last Premier League meeting and that 4-0 reverse was a telling factor in the club going without a spot in the marquee European competition. However, for Brighton, that result will have no bearing as Potter strives to keep his vibrant side level-headed for the impending restart.

During an interview with The Athletic, Potter said: "I'm happy as I can be with this pre-season. In terms of how we are performing, how we are acting every day and in games.

"We had a tricky game against Estoril on not the greatest pitch and not the most awe-inspiring environment - but the attitude was spot on from the players. It's good when you have that, the humility to get on with your work, do their best, push each other and work for each other."

Potter continued: "Like anything in the Premier League, there are no easy ones. You've got to be ready to compete and to try and get points against anybody.

"We've proved that but, still, I don't take any game for granted and no game should be totally out of our reach. We just need to focus on us, preparing as well as we can and then we'll see."
