A new murder mystery series starts on ITV on Monday, March 14 and is adapted from Graham Norton's debut novel, Holding.
Set and filmed in Ireland, Holding is directed by Kathy Burke, and adapted from Norton's novel by Dominic Treadwell-Collins and Karen Cogan.
It stars Game of Thrones' Lord Varys, Olivier award-winning actor, Conleth Hill as local police officer, Sergeant PJ Collins, a gentle mountain of a man, who hides from people and fills his days with comfort food and half-hearted police work.
Kathy Burke said of the project: "It’s a beautiful piece of writing with a great story and fantastic, full-bodied characters. All this with glorious West Cork as its setting proved irresistible."
What is Holding about?
A story of love, secrets and loss, Holding, is a darkly comic tale which shrewdly observes the lives of its characters, each with frailties, complexities and pasts they’d rather keep hidden. The story is a murder mystery laced with dark comedy and centred around the minutiae of rural Irish life. It's set in the insular fictional village of Duneen, West Cork, on the edge of Ireland.
When the body of long-lost local legend Tommy Burke is discovered, PJ is called to solve a serious crime for the first time in his career. PJ finally has to connect with the village he has tried hard to avoid.
When is it on and how many episodes?
It starts on Monday, March 14 at 9pm, ITV. It will then air weekly and has four episodes.
Who's in the cast of Holding?
It's a cast of great pedigree, with Game of Thrones' Conleth starring alongside leading Irish actors Siobhán McSweeney from Derry Girls, Casualty and Home Alone 2's Brenda Fricker, Charlene McKenna from Peaky Blinders, The Virtues and This Is England's Helen Behan, and Father Ted's Pauline McLynn.
Amy Conroy and Clinton Liberty (Handsome Devil, Normal People) also star.
