Graham Glasgow is back in Detroit. After a frustrating three-year sojourn in Denver, the offensive lineman is back with the Lions in 2023.
Glasgow signed a one-year contract worth $4.5 million to come back to his home. He spent his first four NFL seasons with the Lions and played collegiately just up the road in Ann Arbor.
“I’m really excited to be back,” Glasgow said with a warm smile at the start of his press conference on Monday.
The veteran lineman was asked how he felt about joining a Lions team with elevated expectations after a strong finish to 2022.
“That was something that I was excited about when I was looking at places to go,” Glasgow responded. He talked about how impressive it was that the players did not give up after the 1-6 start.
“Seeing them succeed made me really want to come here and be a part of it,” Glasgow opined.
In fact, the allure of joining these Lions prompted Glasgow to shun other potential suitors, including the 49ers and Panthers.
“When I ended up getting released, I told my agent that (Detroit) was a place I was very interested in, and I wanted to gauge their interest in me,” Glasgow told reporters. “And they were interested. It came down to here and San Francisco a little bit and Carolina a little bit, but I was mainly on the train of, ‘If we can get to where the contract would be somewhere where I’d be fine with it, like, I’d like to go through it as soon as possible.’ And that’s what happened.”
He also noted the appeal of joining one of the NFL’s best offensive lines.
“When I was looking at places to go, that was something that was really enticing to me,” he said of joining forces with Taylor Decker, Frank Ragnow, Penei Sewell and Jonah Jackson.
