After ignoring the tight end position throughout the first wave of free agency, the Tennessee Titans have finally added to their room after they agreed to terms with former Chicago Bears tight end, Trevon Wesco.
This type of move was absolutely necessary for Tennessee, as the team didn’t have a primary blocking tight end on the roster with Geoff Swaim hitting free agency.
The team also lost Austin Hooper a few weeks back, so that group as a whole was pretty underwhelming outside of rookie sensation Chig Okonkwo.
Wesco isn’t going to provide much in terms of his pass-catching abilities, but you can make a very strong argument that he is a massive upgrade over Swaim in the blocking department.
Among TEs who reach a snap threshold of 100 snaps, Trevon Wesco ranked 6th in run blocking grade and 8th in pass blocking grade in 2022. He's not a pass catcher. Think of him as the new Craig Stevens.

Last season alone, the West Virginia product received an impressive pass-blocking grade of 78.0 and a run-blocking grade of 68.5, per Pro Football Focus.

Sadly, Wesco probably isn’t going to add much to the offense when it comes to being a reliable target for his quarterback. He finished his 2022 season with two catches for 26 yards and has totaled just 113 yards on eight catches over his entire four-year career.
Fortunately, the Titans have a budding superstar atop the depth chart who is more than capable of producing as a pass-catcher. As long as Wesco can come in and be an asset in the ground game, this move makes all the sense in the world.
