Now that we’ve had a few days to go back through the Pittsburgh Steelers first five games, we are prepared to give out some grades for each of the positional units. First up is the offense and spoiler alert: These aren’t the grades you would want your child coming home from school with.
Quarterback - F
It’s been an ugly five games for Kenny Pickett. After a perfect offseason, the wheels fell off for Pickett when the regular season got started. Pickett is dead last in the AFC in total QBR and is 31st in the entire NFL.
Running back - C+
This is a tough one to grade because while Najee Harris has been pretty underwhelming, the overall grade gets a nice bump thanks to how well Jaylen Warren has performed.
Wide receiver - C+
Another unit that probably should be lower but a single player carries the unit like the smart kid in a group science project. That smart kid is George Pickens who is quickly emerging as a top-tier receiver.
Tight end - F
If you want to point to a huge mistake by offensive coordinator Matt Canada through five games, it is the fact that Steelers tight ends only have 14 catches total.
Offensive line - D
I considered breaking up offensive tackles and interior offensive line but the truth is the commentary and grade would be the same. The only reason this group doesn’t get an F is because in the team’s final game, rookie left tackle Broderick Jones finally started and played well and left guard Isaac Seumalo had by far his best game. The rest of the group remains dreadful.
