The Pittsburgh Steelers lost starting cornerback Cameron Sutton to free agency and signed veteran Patrick Peterson to replace him. However, the front office appreciated the fact that Peterson won’t play forever and Wallace is staring down free agency soon. So they decided to do a little proactive work and draft Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in the second round.
This pick will definitely resonate with the fanbase as Porter Jr. is a legacy with the Steelers. His dad is one of the best pass rushers in franchise history and almost universally beloved.
For us, this pick makes far more sense at No. 32 than it did at No. 17. There is no denying Porter has a high ceiling and given the patience the Steelers can have with him, he should turn out to be perhaps the best cornerback pick by the Steelers in a very long time.
