Pop singer Gracie Abrams has raised eyebrows after fans spotted an unusual image buried in her latest Instagram post.
The “That’s So True” star was among the 1,000 guests who attended the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce over the weekend, and was pictured leaving their Madison Square Garden festivities in New York City in the early hours of Saturday morning (4 July).
Abrams later shared a carousel of photos to Instagram, leading with the sparkling red cowl-neck dress she wore to the occasion. A day earlier, her makeup artist Emily Chen had shared some behind-the-scenes shots of Abrams’s look.
In the third image, the singer shared a closer look at the intricate beading detail, seemingly while on her way to Madison Square Garden.
Abrams captioned the post with the calendar date “17”, apparently in reference to the release date of her new album, Daughter From Hell, due out on 17 July.
But in between the snaps of various album cover designs was a film still, which eagle-eyed fans soon realised was from the Oscar-winning movie The Favourite.
The scene in question depicts British actor Joe Alwyn’s character tackling Emma Stone in her role as Abigail, while the pair are in the woods. Stone happens to be one of Swift’s best friends, while Joe Alwyn, of course, is the pop titan’s ex.
Alwyn and Swift dated for six years, splitting in early 2023. The British actor is widely believed to be the inspiration for songs on a number of Swift’s more recent albums, including 2019’s Lover, her twin 2020 albums Folklore and Evermore, and her 2024 record The Tortured Poets Department.
Fans commented on Abrams’ post questioning the motive behind the still, with one joking that she was “crazyyyy” for sharing it in the same carousel as her outfit for Swift’s wedding.
“Babes I love you but this is weird asf,” another fan said.
“Why would you include a photo of Joe,” another fan questioned, while another claimed they were “unfollowing” Abrams: “Couldn’t you at least congratulate Taylor and Travis on the post?”
A number of Abrams’ fans condemned the “parasocial” behaviour of some of Swift’s fans and urged them to “touch grass”, insisting the film still was “hilarious”.
The Independent has contacted Abrams’ representatives for comment.
Abrams met Swift before opening for the Grammy winner on her Eras Tour in 2023, later collaborating with her on the 2024 song “us”, which was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2025 Grammys.
In a 2025 interview, Abrams told Sofia Coppola in an interview for ELLE magazine that it had been “a privilege” to witness Swift and her team during the Eras Tour.
In a 2024 interview with The Sunday Times, she also described Swift as a friend and mentor, calling her “a safe place to land any time I’ve ever had questions about anything”.
Swift’s representative shared a few key details with The Independent immediately after her and Kelce’s wedding ceremony had concluded, including that she chose not to have a bridal party, instead asking her brother, Austin, to be her “man of honour”.
Kelce had his brother, Jason, as best man, while the couple’s ceremony was officiated by none other than comedian and actor Adam Sandler, a longtime friend and champion of Swift’s. Around 7.30pm on Friday, LED signs outside the venue read “JUST&T MARRIED!” The “T&T” is a nod to their shared first initial, which has been featured on guest gifts for the event.
