For anyone who still lights a Black Flame Candle every October, we’ve got some very good news for you: Hocus Pocus 3 is officially in the works!
The original ’90s cult classic — released in 1993 — finally got a sequel in 2022, and after the follow-up’s massive success, rumours of a third film have been bubbling away ever since. Now, it looks like the witches’ brew is finally coming to a boil.

Is there a Hocus Pocus 3?
Yes, witch!
Talk of a third Hocus Pocus movie has been floating around for years. Back in 2023, former Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production president Sean Bailey confirmed another sequel was in development, but the project appeared to stall following his departure from Disney in 2024.
Now, it looks like the coven is officially getting back together.
The delay reportedly came down to salary negotiations with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, after Midler previously revealed a “brilliant” script had already been written. According to sources, those negotiations have finally been sorted out.
I don’t know which spell was cast to settle the salary back-and-forth, but we are supremely grateful!
Who has joined the cast?
According to reports, Midler, Parker and Najimy are all set to reprise their roles as the iconic Sanderson sisters.

What is the plot?
Plot details for Hocus Pocus 3 are still being kept tightly under wraps, but fans are already speculating about who else could return to Salem.
Released in 1993, the original Hocus Pocus followed three resurrected 17th century witches — Winifred, Sarah and Mary Sanderson — who return to Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween night and attempt to steal the life force of local children in order to live forever.
The sequel, directed by Anne Fletcher, introduced a new generation of Salem teens while bringing the Sanderson sisters back for another round of chaos. It also starred Hannah Waddingham, Belissa Escobedo, Tony Hale and Whitney Peak.
It’s currently unclear if any of the aforementioned actors will be returning, not to mention the stars of the OG flick: Omri Katz, Thora Birch, James Marsden and Sean Murray, none of whom returned for the sequel.
Some of the former cast members — including Birch and Marsden — have publicly said they’d love to return to the franchise, so if Hocus Pocus 3 really is the final chapter, bringing back some familiar faces feels like a no-brainer.
When will it be released?
We don’t when it’s gonna drop just yet, but we do have some tea on the release!
Unlike 2022’s Hocus Pocus 2, which went straight to streaming on Disney+, the new film is reportedly being eyed for a theatrical release. Disney has declined to comment publicly, with the project still in its early stages.
