‘Govt failed to address natural calamities’

MANGALURU: Deputy leader of opposition in Karnataka assembly U T Khader said that the state government has failed to address the distress due to natural calamities. Several districts, and especially the coastal ones, have incurred losses due to rain and natural calamities. Though people are distressed, the government is fast asleep, said Khader, the MLA of Mangaluru.

He told reporters here on Friday, that several houses on the coast in Ullal are on the verge of destruction due to high tide and sea erosion. “What hinders the government to respond immediately, when people have been facing difficulties due to natural disasters? Nearly 15-20 houses in the Sea Ground area of Ullal are facing the threat of destruction due to sea erosion. Similarly, two houses at Bovi near Someshwara may be washed away any time. The road to Battapady has been damaged due to sea erosion, during the past two years,” Khader said, and demanded that an emergency meeting should be convened, to discuss disaster management.
