Government will freeze energy prices for business from October 1 as Kwasi Kwarteng moves to 'stop businesses collapsing'

The Government says it will cap energy bills for businesses from October 1 - cutting the expected wholesale price in half - to help companies facing soaring costs this winter.

Businesses and business groups have been warning of a winter of crisis as huge increases in energy cost are pushing companies to the brink. Support for households was announced a fortnight ago but businesses have had to wait for more details.

Today new Prime Minister Liz Truss said the support package would apply from October 1 and will make sure businesses “are able to get through the winter”. She said shops and pubs would benefit from support with their energy bills beyond the initial six-month scheme.
