Government urged to consider banning far-right group Patriot Platform under anti-terror laws

  • Labour peer Shami Chakrabarti has urged the UK government to consider banning the far-right group Patriot Platform under anti-terrorism legislation.
  • Baroness Chakrabarti warned that the group appears to explicitly incite violence and intimidation, comparing its uniformed members to 1930s blackshirts.
  • Led by far-right activist Daniel Thomas, Patriot Platform recently coordinated disruptive anti-migrant protests that blocked roads in Dover and Portsmouth.
  • The former civil rights chief argued that inaction against the group risks damaging public trust through perceived double standards following the ban on Palestine Action.
  • Proscription under the Terrorism Act 2000 would make it a criminal offence for anyone to join or support the group.
