Government's new tipping laws slammed over unclosed loophole that means workers can still be taxed on tips

The Government’s new tipping legislation has been criticised because there is an unclosed loophole that means workers can still be taxed on their tips.

The new laws, which come into effect tomorrow, December 1, introduce new rules to ensure employees get their tips, gives guidelines on the sharing of tips and bans employers from using tips to make up wages.

However, workers can still be taxed on their tips, despite the fact that those who get tips usually work in lower paid jobs.
