Government reveals new £26m strategy to combat UK knife crime

  • The government is implementing a new strategy to combat knife crime, utilising national mapping technology to identify specific hotspots.
  • Police forces will receive this technology to pinpoint streets and locations where knife offences are most prevalent, down to 100 square metres and specific times.
  • A £26 million Knife Crime Concentrations Fund has been established to support police operations in these high-risk zones.
  • This funding is allocated to 27 police forces across England and Wales, which account for 90 per cent of all knife crime incidents.
  • Identified hotspots will see increased police patrols, new CCTV cameras, live facial recognition, and knife detection arches, alongside a plan to halve knife crime within a decade and new youth centres.
