Irish households could be faced with unbearably high energy bills next year if drastic measures are not implemented.
According to a government document, seen by the Irish Times and Irish Independent, gas and electricity bills could jump to €6,000 next year.
It states that things could become unbearable for families as the number of people experiencing fuel poverty could rise to over 50% if measures are not put in place.

Households have already faced their bills nearly doubling over the past twelve months, and it looks as if plans are in motion to allow for support to be brought in even after the Budget announcement on September 27.
On Friday Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said this month’s budget will “significantly soften the blow” of the soaring cost of living as he suggested there may be a pay boost both before and after Christmas to cope with rising energy costs.
The Fine Gael TDs said he was shocked by how many people were “very worried about their bills” while he was out speaking to locals in Kilkenny.
Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast, he said: “I can give them the reassurance that the Government is going to help them.
“We’re here to help, we’re here to make sure that we can soften the blow significantly of the rising cost of living.”
