The Centre on Monday notified the Rs 1.28 lakh crore ($13 billion) India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0, which proposes government support for chip designing, domestic manufacturing of semiconductor equipment and materials, setting up fabrication units, and research and development of advanced technologies.
“Close to 10% of the global semiconductor industry’s market will be in India in the coming years. The semiconductor ecosystem being developed in India is also expected to create 50,000–60,000 direct jobs,” electronics and information technology minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
