Experts have predicted sky high energy bills this winter as the average cost of gas and electric bills could reach £3,245 per year. New research from National Energy Action suggests one in three UK households could face fuel poverty.
Energy prices are already at record highs and experts from Cornwall Insight believe prices could rise from £1,971 to £3,245 in October and even to £3,364 at the beginning of next year. The Government has planned to apply a £400 rebate to all electricity accounts to offset the increase.
The Daily Record reports that Ofgem will announce the next energy price cap hike at the end of August. Despite the government £400 help, NEA believes it won't be enough to prevent fuel poverty.
